Gary Van Syoc
Gary Van Syoc is a wood turner who lives and operates his hobby/business, Wood Art by Gary, in the heart of Kansas and the Flint Hills. Many of his pieces begin with a rough log with bark, locked on to his Oneway lathe, and end up as a bowl, vase, plate, chalice or piece determined by the size, shape and condition of log. He uses a number of different techniques to enhance each piece, such as segmenting together different types and colors of wood, carving on some pieces, sand blasting, air brushing, and using different finishes. Each one is a unique, one of a kind, piece of art that can be displayed or used for many practical purposes.
